Vesak 2023 Observance

Dharma speech on Opening Ceremony initiate by Master for Wesak 2023.

Wesak day opening ceremony.

Video 1:

Let’s chant this mantra, “Buddha Nam Ani Prani. Buddha Nam Ani Prani. Buddha Nam Ani Prani”. This mantra is the supreme great Parinirvana. This is making offerings to the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, all sentient beings, and Vajra Guru. One should make offering in the humblest manner, strongest willingness to give dana, and be in low profile. They should make offering by devoting themselves in entirety, sacrifice for the wellbeing and making others wholesome again. Thus, they enter the samadhi of letting go, samadhi of bright radiance, and enter a state and stage of liberation. Their wisdom can progress to a higher level, a superior stage and their mind can attain the complete Prajna Paramita. What is complete Prajna Paramita? It is when one is free from persistent stubbornness, differentiation, and defilements. They traversed the sea of life and death and arrived at the shore of liberation from this shore of pain and suffering.

“Buddha Nam Ani Prani”. This represents our supreme wisdom and our progress into liberation, letting go, and cessation of creating negative karma. We should cultivate in accordance to Buddha dharma. When was this mantra taught as it has been taught till today? Sakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment after meditating in silence at Sarnath under the bodhi tree for seven days. He gazed upon the night sky and saw the glittering stars in contrast of the darkness of Earth. The stars glittered in golden light; it’s bright light illuminated the Earth. From there, Buddha became enlightened and attained the samadhi of bright radiance, the samadhi of letting go, and the samadhi of free from any persistent stubbornness. Moreover, the Buddha could transform defilements into purity, hence attaining the samadhi of purity, the complete Prajna Paramita. The Buddha left the mountain after that. There were five bhikkus who left him in his cultivation. They decided among themselves to not rise or put their palms together in paying respects to the Buddha if they should meet each other. In addition, they won’t welcome the Buddha and decided to ignore him if they come across the Buddha. The Buddha walked down the mountain in the most graceful manner. The sky was raining nectar dew, as well as heavenly flowers rained from the sky . How many kinds of heavenly flowers were there? From which stage or space dimension were they from? The heavenly flowers came from Pure Land, the Pure Lands of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Moreover, the heavenly flowers also came from the heavens, i.e. kamadhatu (desire realm), rupadhatu (form realm), and arupadhatu (formless realm). In addition, the heavenly flowers also came from mind, i.e. the Prajna mind. It is the Prajna mind of all Vajras, Wisdom Kings, Dakinis, and Green Tara. The heavenly flowers were conjured to praise the Buddha. His arrival was long awaited. As the Buddha walked towards the five Bhikkus, they were spontaneously subdued.

The Buddha spoke the first phrase to them. What did he say? “Buddha Nam Ani Prani. Buddha Nam Ani Prani”. After hearing this, the five Bhikkus became enlightened and attained the stage of Arahant. What did they see after that? They possessed “Bo Ye Zhong Xiang Zhi”. What is “Bo Ye Zhong Xiang Zhi”? It is bodhi wisdom, also known as the Paramita of emptiness, i.e. the knowledge and perception that everything in the world is empty in nature, fictional constructs, and is just an illusion. Do you understand now? The world is like an illusion or mirage. It is empty in nature and is just a fictional construct. Please don’t be fooled by these kinds of external forms. Otherwise, our eyes will be distracted, bewildered and the clarity of our vison impaired. Thus, the five Bhikkus became Arahants and offered praises to the Buddha. As they offered praises, some people appeared. Who were they? They were Dragon King Vajra, Tiger King Vajra, Panther King Vajra, Lion King Vajra, Snake King Vajra, Wolf King Vajra, and Hog/Boar King Vajra. They were making grand offerings with their mind and mantras. What is the offering of mantras? They can conjure leaves from their palms. They conjured countless leaves and offered a leaf to Buddha. The leaves were from various space dimensions, including the 3rd dimension, 4th dimension, 5th dimension and to the 12th dimension. Soon, the Astasenas appeared to make offerings to Buddha. They were chanting a mantra. Do you know what mantra it was? Look here, what cloth is this? This is known as the Liberation Cloth, Merits field cloth, Vajra Cloth, and Bodhi cloth. Therefore, offering this kind of robe (kasaya) is a deed of great virtues. They chanted the mantra, “Tubor Tubor Svaha. Tubor Tubor Svaha. Tubor Tubor Svaha”. Thus, one who makes offering of such kasaya, i.e. the Liberation Cloth, Merits field cloth, Vajra Cloth, and Bodhi cloth, will be empowered by Buddha’s light and Buddha Dharma in every lifetime. Billions of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will bestow their blessings onto them and perform the transference of teachings (abhiseka) to them. With this, one can become a Buddha in the future, i.e. “Cheng Jiu Fo”. Who is the “Cheng Jiu Fo”? Amoghasiddhi Buddha. “Om Amogha Siddhi Hum. Om Amogha Siddhi Hum. Om Amogha Siddhi Hum”. This is the mudra of Amoghasiddhi. What kind of mudra is this? It is the mudra for initiation. This mudra shall be used for our initiation ceremony today. Take a look at this Liberation Cloth, Merits field cloth, Vajra Cloth, and Bodhi cloth. Establish affinity with it so in your every lifetimes, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas from countless Pure Lands will shine their light on you. With the Buddha’s light, you can live in serenity, calm, tranquility, and harmony. Your mind becomes gentle. You will speak in a soft and kind manner as you become a lenient and benevolent person. We should stop being strong and harsh person. The strongest part of our body is our tooth. However, it is also the first to decay. On the other hand, the softest part of our body is tongue. Till now, my tongue is still intact, but my tooth had all fallen off. Do you understand? This is how softness can subdue hardness.

“Om Amogha Siddhi Hum. Om Amogha Siddhi Hum.” What is “Tubor Tubor Svaha”? What does this mantra represent? What is “Tu”? “Tu” is height. It represents the height of our enlightenment in Buddha Dharma. It can exceed reincarnation, this world of five Turbidities, or the waves of samsara that create negative karma. Samsara is full of challenges, difficulties, setbacks and ups and downs. Thus, with the height one achieved in their enlightenment, they can ride the peak of the waves and overcome samsara. In other words, this is renunciation where one leaves the evil world of five Turbidities and never return. “Samsara is bodhimanda; klesha is bodhi”. This is said by the Sixth Patriarch.

“Jala Piyeh Jala Piyeh Svaha”. What is “Jala Piyeh”? That is listening of sound. By listening to my voice, one can become liberated. “Jala Piyeh Jala Piyeh Svaha”. You can become liberated by just listening to this. In every temple, dharma centre, monastery, and vihara, there is an enormous bell. By ringing the bell, all monks must stand up upon hearing the sound. What time do the monks perform their morning cultivation routine? Usually, it is six in the morning. All bhikkus, approximately 300 of them will wake up, prepare, and put on their “Zheng Yi” (robe). They put their palms together and walk in a circle with the chief abbot. What do they chant as they walk? It is “O Mi To Fo”. For Tibet, they will chant “Om Ami Dewa Sih”. When they hear this sound, their mind becomes serene, and they could focus and devote fully to the practice. They subdued their restless mind, and able to set their mind at a specific position, i.e. the Samadhi of setting mind.

As Sakyamuni Buddha walked down from Sarnath, the five Bhikkus surrounded him. The Buddha said something during then. What did he say that was so astonishing? Is it “From the heavens to Earth, I alone am the World-Honored One”? It is not this. He said this when he was born. So, what did he say? “O kind men and women, you are the dana giver of everything”. What does “dana giver of everything” mean? You will descend the mountain and give dana to all sentient beings. You bring them Buddha dharma and propagate it to everyone, benefiting many as a result. This act is construed as attaining liberation and enlightenment and helping other sentient beings to achieve the same. What is bodhi? Bodhi is “Zi Du Du Ta” (Attaining liberation and enlightenment and helping other sentient beings to achieve the same)? Bodhi is the Paramita of Emptiness, the Paramita of Impermanence, and the Paramita of Illusions and fictional forms. Thus, bodhi is also known as bodhi wisdom. On the other hand, what is Prajna wisdom? Prajna wisdom is “Bo Ye Bie Xiang Zhi”. What is “Bo Ye Bie Xiang Zhi”? To attain this, one must have “Chu Xin”. What is “Chu Xin”? It is the Bodhisattva of the First Bhumi stage.  From the Ten Faiths (The Ten Grades of Bodhisattva Faith), Ten Deeds, Ten Transference of Merits, Ten stages or periods of Bodhisattva Wisdom, and the Ten Dasabhumi or stages of development of a Bodhisattva to Buddha. The first is “Huan Xi Di” (Pramudita- the joy of overcoming former difficulties and now entering the path of Buddhahood). Where does Pramudita come from? The Buddha said, “You are all dana givers of everything”. What dana are we offering? We are offering all our virtues to benefit all sentient beings and provide everything we possess to the world. Then, the Buddha said this, “Om Sulu Sulu Pala Sulu Pala Sulu Svaha”. What mantra is this? It is the Nectar Dew mantra. “Om Sulu Sulu Pala Sulu Pala Sulu Svaha”. This is the mantra of Nectar Dew. After saying this, the sky rained nectar dew. Dragon kings and Dragon King Vajras appeared. Behind them, there were Tiger King Vajra, Lion King Vajra, Panther King Vajra, and Snake King Vajra. All of them surrounded the Buddha. Why did they surround the Buddha? It is because heavenly flowers were falling from the sky. They put their hands out to receive the flowers. The Earth shook as they held the flowers in their hands. Bodhisattvas from the underground earth core rose and appeared. They were many of them, 8.4 trillion, not 84,000. Each of them held a flower in their hands as they offered them to Buddha, i.e. the Buddha of Great Parinirvana mind, Sakyamuni Buddha. What do we refer him as the “great Parinirvana”. There are two kinds of pariniravana, i.e. the lesser and the great. The Lesser Parinirvana refers to the Arahants. On the other hand, the Great Parinirvana refers to Buddhas whom possessed the Complete Prajna Paramita. “Om Sulu Sulu Pala Sulu Pala Sulu Svaha”.

Video 2:

“Bo Sit Bola Moni. Bo Sit Bola Moni. Bo Sit Bola Moni”. We must drink the water after chanting this mantra. It is rather intriguing to watch others desiring the drinks they can’t have. However, I have unhindered access to them, i.e. the water and food. I alone can eat or drink as I am above and superior. When all of you are sitting, I am standing up high here. “Bo Sit Bola Moni. Bo Sit Bola Moni. Bo Sit Bola Moni”. Why do we have to chant “Offering this food or drink to the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, all sentient beings, and to the Vajra Guru”. I chant this mantra because there are countless sentient beings in a glass of water. The Buddha had said that in every cup of water, there are 8.4 trillion sentient beings. No one believed the Buddha when he said that 3,000 years ago. However, we can prove that now as we can now see that there are countless germs, viruses, diseases, bacteria, and fungus. Therefore, we should chant this mantra prior to drinking water. The purpose is to purify our mouth karma.

“Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip. Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip. Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip”. Have you heard of this? “Tanto O Tuo Ye”. “Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip, Tanto O Tuo Ye. Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip, Tanto O Tuo Ye. Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip, Tanto O Tuo Ye”. What does this mantra mean? I am giving dharma discourse now and I can see many sentient beings in the space here. They came from this great Earth. Among them are “Tian Mo” (Heavenly Mara), “Xin Mo” (mind demon), “Fan Lao Mo” (demon of mental afflictions), “Se Mo” (demon of external forms), and “Da Di Mo” (the demons of the earth). “Da Di Mo” is essentially our karmic creditors. They closely followed every person and are out everywhere now. “Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tio Nip, Tanto O Tuo Ye”. I open their eyes so they can see us. I open their ears so they can hear Buddha dharma. I open their nose so they can smell the sandalwood fragrance from Buddha dharma. I open their mouth so they can chant mantra, the heart mantras, and the Buddha names. Hence, they can follow us to Pure Land. “Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip, Tanto O Tuo Ye”. Mr. Chin, can you remember this? How about you, Kenny? This is the Dragon King Vajra and the other is the Tiger Head Vajra. We have many Vajras here, for example “Wolf Man Vajra”, “Pig King Vajra”, “Snake King Vajra”, “Panther King Vajra”, and other kinds of Vajras. All of you are the Dana Giver of everything and must be actively participating in all dana activities. Thus, you can accumulate merits and virtues, and cultivate merits and wisdom. Let’s repeat the mantra, “Pu Pu Ti Ti Cha Tuo Nip, Tanto O Tuo Ye”. After chanting the mantra, the whole earth is covered with fruits, i.e. papayas, bananas, and such. The Astasenas magically created carts and wagons to carry the fruits. Cart by cart, the fruits were distributed to the people together with the five Bhikkus. Thus is the Paramita of Dana. They searched for people living in poverty and gave them papayas and bananas. In the end, everyone was happy and covered in joy. All of them had a banana in their hand. They were happy, excited, and joyful with just a slice of papaya. Hence, this is how Buddha dharma captivates our mind.

“Tubor Tubor Svaha. Tubor Tubor Svaha”. People walked down the mountain and came across a village. At that time, many people were quarrelling in the village. Six thousand villagers were quarrelling due to depression and insomnia. This is because their land is arid, and nothing can be grown from it. The soil was unfertile and dry. No crops could be grown from those land. The Buddha walked towards the village and chanted “Tan Poh Tan Poh Svaha. Tan Poh Tan Poh Svaha”. After chanting the mantra, these 6,000 people fell sleep spontaneously. This mantra is also known as the lullaby for immediate sleeping. For those who suffer from sleep disorders and insomnia, you can chant this mantra. “Tan Poh Tan Poh Svaha. Tan Poh Tan Poh Svaha”. After chanting this mantra, you will enjoy a good sleep.

When you enter your bathroom for a shower, you might get a view of a river, the Yangtze River, lake, or sea. One might take a ship to sail across oceans. There was once when the Buddha arrived at a seaside. At that time, the waves were strong and high. The Buddha conjured a leaf and let it float on the sea. Then, the Buddha turned that leaf into a ship. The Buddha boarded that ship afterwards and chanted a mantra. Do you know what he chanted? “Ala Mola Tola. Ala Mola Tola. Ala Mola Tola”. This is to liberate and transfer merits to the deceased of sentient beings that died in the ocean, including fishes, prawns, and crabs. This also includes the fishermen who died at sea. “Ala Mola Tola. Ala Mola Tola. Ala Mola Tola”. After chanting this mantra, the sentient beings who died in the sea and those that has not all turned into lotus flowers that float up to the sky. After that, they turned into 9 rainbows. Mr.Chin, why are there 9 rainbows? Kenny? The 9 rainbows is due to the Bodhisattvas of the Nine Bhumi Stage. The First Bhumi stage Bodhisattva, i.e. “Huan Xi Di” (Pramudita) comes from giving dana. The Second Bhumi stage Bodhisattva, i.e. “Li Kou Di” (Vimala-freedom from all possible defilement, the stage of purity) comes from observing the precepts. The Third Bhumi stage Bodhisattva comes from “Chan Ding” (dhyana). What is “Chan Ding”? That is cease all conflicts, let go of disputes, leave the world of noise and arguments, and enter a gentle, serene, bright, and warm Pure Land, just like the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. That is as told by Buddha. The Fourth Bhumi Stage Bodhisattva is “Jin Jing” (Making strong progress in cultivation). The Fifth Bhumi Stage Bodhisattva is “Ren Ru” (enduring). The Sixth Bhumi Stage is “Bo Ye Bo Luo Mi” (Prajna Paramita). These are also known as the “Liu Du Bo Luo Mi” (sad-paramita).

After that, the Buddha spoke of another mantra. Have you heard of the “Zhuan Fa Lun Pu Sa” (Dharma Wheel Bodhisattva)? “Taraghata Dharma Chakra. Taragatha Dharma Chakra. Taragatha Dharma Chakra”. The Bodhisattva makes circular movement with his hand continuously. As he does so, many sentient beings of the hungry ghost realm on earth took refuge in the Triple Gems. Once they take refuge under the Triple Gems, they can be turned from Mara to Buddha, layperson to Bodhisattva, suffering to bliss, klesha to bodhi, samsara into bodhimanda, the evil world of five Turbidities into Pure Land of Bright radiance and Lapis Lazuli, defeat into victory, loss into obtaining, and laziness into making strong and valiant progress in cultivation. Ultimately, it is about “zhuan” (changing, turning). “Taragatha Dharma Chakra. Taragatha Dharma Chakra”.

The Buddha then put his hands in the air. The Astasenas then came down from the heaven and surrounded the Buddha. They followed the Buddha and stopped behind him. They said to the Buddha, “I shall pay respects and homage to the Tathagata, offer praises to the Tathagata, request Buddha to remain in the world, and turn the dharma wheel. I shall ceaselessly follow the teachings of the Buddha, make offerings generously, to accommodate and benefit all sentient beings, rejoice in the meritorious deeds of others, repent misdeeds, and evil karmas, and transfer all merits and virtues to benefit all sentient beings”. Why did they say this? By chanting this mantra, in the moment of one’s death, the Buddha will appear to lead and guide them to Western Pure Land, at the first lotus level rebirth in Pure Land. Thus, they will wake up in the palm of the Buddha after death. They will be reborn in the palm of Amitabha Buddha, who is also the Buddha of Infinite Light, Buddha of Infinite Life, Buddha of Infinite Virtues, Buddha of Infinite retuning kindness (Bao Ern). Why is he called “Bao Ern Fo”? The Buddha comes from this great land and hence, the Buddha wants to return the kindness of this Earth.

Sakyamuni Buddha then chanted the mantra “Om Sulu Sulu Pala Sulu Pala Sulu Svaha” on the sea. Do you the meaning of this mantra? We are the sprites of water, as clear as water. May calmness and tranquil return to the land and wash away the defilements of the world. This is the meaning of this mantra that is known as the Nectar Dew mantra. One can cease suffering and gain happiness with this mantra.

“Om Amogha Siddhi Hum. Om Amogha Siddhi Hum. Om Amogha Siddhi Hum”. After we completed the initiation, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva emerged from deep inside the Earth. He is followed by 84,000, not Astasenas, but the rakshas, yakshas, hell soldiers and generals including the “Cow head”, and “Horse face”. As Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva stood in front of the Buddha, the Buddha taught him three mantras, i.e. “Om Phra Mani Dani Svaha”. This mantra is to cease the hatred and dissent between us and our karmic creditors. “Om Phra Yele Svaha”. This is to guide and lead sentient beings so they can become a Buddha. “Om Phra Buduka. Om Phra Buduka. Om Phra Buduka”. This is to say you, me and him have all become Buddhas. We shall create a perfect, supremely bright, happy and blissful Pure Land.

Have you heard lots of mantras today? Are you captivated and awed? There are the Tripitaka of Suttas, Vinaya, and Abhidhamma. I am here telling you the fourth pitaka. It is immensely difficult to learn the fourth pitaka. One can only do so in Tibet. In Tibet, there is something known as “Fuk Chak”. It is where Buddha’s teachings had been buried and kept hidden for thousands of years. Unravelling them, one can find many magical and wondrous mantras and dharanis. I have a group of disciples who suffered from insomnia. I taught them to chant “Tan Poh Tan Poh Svaha”. They followed my advice and had slept well from night till morning since.

Have you heard of “Duo Bao Ru Lai” (Ratnasambhava Buddha), or “Bao Sheng Ru Lai”, “Bao Zang Ru Lai”, or “Bao Ying Ru Lai”? “Guru Nana Taragatha Hum. Guru Nana Taragatha Hum. Guru Nana Tathagata Hum”. This is the mantra of Ratnasambhava Buddha. After chanting this mantra, one can transform from poverty to becoming wealthy, and sever their roots of poverty, roots of mental afflictions, and roots of pain and suffering. There is excessive suffering when one lives in poverty. They suffer from lack of food, no cars to drive around, and inability to find a spouse. They live alone, return home to sleep in a garbage dump. They get chased out eventually and have only flies and cockroaches as friends. Hence, do chant this mantra, i.e. “Guru Nana Taragatha Hum. Guru Nana Taragatha Hum”. After chanting this mantra, Ratnasambhava Buddha will send you great treasure, i.e. Buddha dharma. Moreover, the Buddha will also give you “Bao Yun” (Good fortune and luck) so you can enjoy good luck in your whole life. The Buddha will also give you “Bao Sheng”, i.e. that is the guarantee that you will be reborn in Pure Land. Take rebirth there and never to return to samsara.

“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Sri Hum. Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Sri Hum”. This is the heart mantra of Sakyamuni Buddha. You can chant this mantra. By doing so, you have effectively make a great offering of mantra here.

“Om Amogha Vairocana Maha Mudra Mani Padma Jivala Pravataya Hum”. This the Mantra of Light. I wish that everyone can possess brightness in their mind, vows, feet, hands, and everything they do. They shall be righteous, lawful and have a clear conscience in life. “Om Ami Dewa Say”.
